Welcome to the Red Wolf Mist

http:// Hello! Welcome to my new blog!

If you don't already know me, my name is Aaron Smith. I'm a songwriter because I've always felt a need to tell stories in one form or another. I'm a guitarist because it's fun! And I sing because i have to, because the words in my songs are my words and I feel I have to be the one to tell those stories.

Back when I was a writer of novels and short stories (that's a tale for another time), I blogged often, but I'm a little rusty at this, so please bear with me as I get back into it.

This time around, I'm here to talk about music. I'm going to use this blog to explain how I came to be a musician, talk about some of the stories behind my songs, mention some of the bands and artists who have inspired or influenced me, and try to help promote some of my fellow independent musicians.

This is just an introductory entry to get this blog started, so I won't ramble on too long, but I should give you an idea of how to find my music if you're interested in hearing some of it.

My first EP, Red Wolf Mist, was released in 2019 and contains 6 songs, all relating in some way to horror, either real or imaginary. A few months after that, I released a single, The Gun Song, which expresses my anger about the lack of proper gun control measures in the United States. It's a protest song that deals with a subject I feel very strongly about.

Two years later, after some pandemic-related delays, I recorded my full-length album, Sand in the Hourglass, which features 10 songs that deal with time, history, and memory. It's sort of a concept album and the songs were placed in a very specific sequence.

I've put out one more single since then. Almost Forever is about the need to take action concerning climate change before it's too late.

As far as the type of music I make, I've never really been sure how to describe it. My friend Jordan calls some of it "Haunted Americana." I like that label for some of my darker songs, especially the bulk of Red Wolf Mist. And some of my work is heavier too. Another friend once said my music is "folky, but with a little Black Sabbath." I like that description too.

So, if any of that sounds interesting, you can find my music on Bandcamp

Or on YouTube

And Apple Music

And, if you'd like, please feel free to follow me on Twitter
